You have to love motor journalists that tell you about the fit and finish of super cars……….. have you ever seen the interior of most Ferrari’s………. they look worse than a 1980’s Ford Cortina….. and I would know…. I was driven around in one (a Ford Cortina not a Ferrari) in the years before I got my own license and wheels……….. and who cares……… when you are rocketing from standstill to 100 in 3.8 seconds I don’t think you are stroking the dashboard and worrying if your leg is pressing up against the centre console………. They also tell you rubbish like “the purists don’t like new Lambo’s because they have German influence….but this means the switches work” ………. Who cares…… certainly not those that can buy them………. They are too busy screaming under their breath (or in Jeremy Clarkson’s case………… aloud like a stuck pig) and pretending they have testicles of steel to handle the g-forces……… they have also bought the car to pick up chicks and / or drive past their old colleagues (from their last employ) while “pulling the finger” so they can see the reaction …. they really don’t want to be moving around too much in the car and have their colleagues or the babes miss seeing their pearly whitened grins …………..

The “poser”: 2006 Spyder e-gear: 382kW/510N.m; 0-100 4.7 seconds; Top Speed 290km/h; Price R2.69mil (one year unlimited mileage warranty. 4 wheel drive).

The Racer: 2008 Superleggera: 390kW/510N.m; 0-100: 3.8secs; Top Speed 315km/h; Price R3.5mil; 3 years, unlimited warranty / service plan (I $!@@$& well should think so at the GDP of Ethiopia for the vehicle).

Service intervals 12000km. Minor service R4500 and major R9000. New set of tyres R18300 (half the price of the new X5’s tyres)…. Not much more than a BMW 3 series E90’s tyres…….. and an e-gear clutch R37500… should last 15000 to 20000km………… not the way Jeremy drives though with those smoking tyres………… his burn around the airfield in his Spyder probably cost him close to 3000 Pound Sterling……… and what’s with those luminous orange seats………….. why not pink………..

Don’t forget………. A Porsche 993 Turbo S will set you back a “mere” R1mil compared to these and will hold it’s value. I have seen a 2005 Gallardo at Investment Cars for R1.85mil (10 cylinder, 4961cc, 368kW, Manual, Coupe )……… imagine loosing R1mil on the value of your car in two years………. Even if you have that kind of money………. It’s got to hurt…. If you HAVE to spend that much money …. buy a Ferrari for crying out loud………. At least they hold their value……….. sadly a Gallardo does not seem to fall into the category of investment cars…

……although Porsches suffer from the same problem….. from new they depreciate to a bottom price and then start escalating again to go way past original selling price……… the trick is if you are happier to buy new and hang on forever……… or buy an old one at the deflated price…………..
