Nissan Livina CGear vs Toyota Verso vs BMW X3

A colleague of mine has a Nissan Livina……….. I can’t bring myself to test drive one as I don’t want to ever know what it feels like to die slowly. He assures me that he can get seven people (2 adults and five children ….. not all his own) into it.

I never saw the point of SUV’s until I had kids………….. It is the solution for the man who wants an up market executive car…. With an off roader image………….. while still being able to deliver the kids to school and go on weekends away without looking like you lost all of your manly authority.

You need such a thing to be able to transport your entire family around with only one driver and one parking space in the ever increasingly congested city. Great for the wife to do a lift club and deliver flowers to clients…… while still big enough to go on vacation…….. and tow your toys around……….. Still I couldn’t bring myself to be subjected to ALL of the Nissan Livina and Toyota Verso’s raw practicality……………  all in one little space. So I bought a BMW X3 3.0i instead. Fits the pram and the camp cot and the bags (and my body board….. which I seem to end up never using) without having to tow a trailer. It doesn’t have seven seats like the Livina…….. but fits 5 for a medium distance journey and if you REALLY had to fit 7………….. two kids would fit “comfortably” in the boot for a short trip …… really in effect what you are doing in the Livina and the Verso as their sixth and seventh seats are right in the boot….. however if you have a rear end in the Livina or Verso I am sure you’d end up with 2 hurt kids while the X3 just seems a bit more robust. Can’t do long trips with 7 in the X3 though….. especially not legally…….. and probably not too safely at highway speeds………..

OK…….. I’m not comparing cars of a similar price range …………… I was looking at the new Toyota and Nissan while looking at a second hand X3………… this is the benefit of motorplan……… if you buy a car with problems …………. get fixed for free …………. Toyota and Nissan can tell me what they like about reliability etc but if there is something wrong ……… it’s going to cost me money I did not plan on…………….You have to however give Toyota and Nissan the prize for practicality, cost effectiveness and fuel efficiency.
