McLaren MP4-12C

Say MP4-12C over and over 20 times. Go away for 20 minutes, have a beer and then try and remember it again..........

Some very privileged motor journalists have had the luxury of racing the “old” McLaren F1 against a Bugatti Veyron. The McLaren won..... it may however have been the driver though...... Its baby brother has arrived. The MP4-12C. 0-60mph in three seconds and a top speed in excess of 200mph are likely. Not quite the warp speed of the F1 but still lightning fast.

600bhp. 443lb ft of torque (80% available from under 2,000rpm). 1,400kg.
Mid engine. New 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8. Dry sump and flat-plane crank.

Revolutionary one-piece carbon fibre tub (81kg). Seven-speed dual clutch transmission that they call SSG....... why not SSDCT only they will know. Innovative suspension that does away with conventional anti-roll bar and rather features hydraulically inter-connected dampers. Rear air brake, just like the original F1.

Designer Frank Stephenson says "There's an efficiency to the design of the 12C. The shape is not overpowered by styling tricks or elements that don't need to be there. With McLaren it's more technological - there's no styling for styling's sake."....... Blah, Blah, Blah...... yes Frank and the wine you had last night tastes like cow dung with a hint of mint and cherry infused with a bit of banana and Blah, Blah, Blah..................

1000 12Cs will be built each year. £150,000 - Ferrari 458 money. A bargain compared to the original F1 - £500,000 in 1992.

Think of it this way. You could have six of these for the same price as a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport......... the six you buy will go 0-100 0.3 seconds slower than the Veyron..... AND save your life by not being able to go the 80km/h faster on top speed that turns pigeons into missiles AND you won’t have to mess about with that stupid Veyron Grand Sport umbrella roof.
What I wouldn’t give to own an F1 though. If I only had £500,000 left and a few weeks to live, I would spend all my money to drive an F1 every day for the remainder of my passionate life............ come to think of it.... if I wasn’t going to die and had £500,000 in the bank I would probably spend it on an F1....... no idea how I would afford the costly services though......... See my up-coming article on my dream garage for details and wallpapers on the McLaren F1.
